Definition of Bio-Mechanics= The mechanics of a living thing, specifically referred herein to the human skeletal system with it's muscles, ligaments (bone-to-bone), and tendons (muscle to bone); the movements and actions of these, and how that affects pain conditions.
Definition of Bio-Hydraulics= The flow of fluids in the human body; pathological entrapment of these fluids, and how these affect pain and loss of functional movement of the human structure. These fluids include Blood, Lymph, Cerebral Spinal Fluid and collectively Intracellular water content.
Since your body is a skin covered, musculo-skeletal + bio-hydraulic system, the two definitions above have a lot to do with each other. Specifically, mechanical MIS-alignments will cause problems with Bio-hydraulics in the form of pockets of entrapped fluidic pressure. This in turn will reduce healing capability of the area (loss of normal blood flow), loss of functional motion, and even nerve pressure which reduces signaling of nerve communication to it's intended destination.
Chiropractic has been developed entirely along the line of Bio-mechanics over the last 124 years. Everything has been thought of along this line of body operation. 'Have a problem in a particular area? It's your body's poor bio-mechanics caused by bones being out of place'. Or 'the misaligned spinal bone is putting pressure on the spinal nerve, causing communication disruptions'.
I'm not writing this to say that this is wrong, but could there be more? And if there is more, presently and largely unexamined, and un-practiced in clinics, could there be an improvement of outcomes? The answer is 100% yes! Since only recently (2023), there has been in development, a technique which takes into account BOTH of the above factors.
It has begun to explain a lot of things that were either explained only from a Bio-mechanical view (not the whole story),... or clinic presentations that were not-at-all understood until now. Bio-hydraulics, once clinically looked at, tested for, and treated, alongside it's "Bio-mechanical cousin", produce easy, fast, and longer standing results in practices.
This article is only an introduction to Bio-hydraulics in Chiropractic practice, and there are many more specific explanations that are easy to understand and "ring true". Keep coming back to this website to see more articles written with just such interest articles to be posted.
