The "Winds of Change": The Role of the Rib Cage in Holding the Body Upright

Picture a Sail on a Sail-boat, catching a gust of wind, and with the sudden whipping sound of fabric being filled out. It now has taken on it's fully filled-out shape as it pulls the boat strongly forward. How does this possibly relate to the Human Rib Cage?!

The Rib Cage also collects it's own "wind" from the inside, in the form of increased Hydraulic Pressure. But in this case, it's a way to deal with Spinal Misalignment to hold the body upright (despite the misalignments). And clinically, this reveals another barrier to Structural Correction, which much be addressed in order to achieve that goal!

The Rib Cage is not only a muscular anchor system for body movement, it is also a collector of Fluidic pressure (from the inside of the ribs) - this mechanism keeps a human body upright for optimal survival - running, climbing, hunting, evading danger, and not least of all, to allow for full lung expansion for maximal oxygen delivery.

Back to Chiropractic! This Basic survival mechanism must be considered when a Chiropractor attempts Structural Correction. If this internal pressure up against the inside of the ribs is not alleviated, then Rib Cage correction remains difficult to work with. And clinical practitioners are left to assume that this is "Just the Nature of the Rib Cage - 'Tight and Unmoving' ".

"Compensation Pattern" definition: how the body balances, in all it parts as a whole, to keep itself as upright as possible for optimal survival, despite it's bony misalignments. These patterns are collected like an ever growing 'Onion', layered successively (definition: each in turn over time) on top of the previous one. They are caused by injuries, fast or slow (postural habits).

And when a "rib goes out" (Ow!!), it is looked at as a separate, single rib problem, and all sorts of attempts to put the one rib back in are practiced; which when successful at alleviating the pain, is entirely temporary. And in time, the entire structure shifts to further twists (anywhere) elsewhere to avoid the painful 'Single Rib" Compensation pattern.

This thinking also leads to all kinds of other false assumptions: 'You have to push hard on the rib cage to correct it', 'Older patients can't be helped in this way for danger of fracture (because light treatment can't help)', 'That's simply how the Rib Cage Is', and 'It's not an area of concern for Structural Correction'. All false, and all from failing to understand how Bio-hydraulics work in the body.

The Rib Cage does NOT have to remain stuck, is NOT naturally Tight and Unmoving, and it has an enormously important role in Overall Structural Correction of the Human Frame, and complete alleviation of Chronic Body pain.

At Align Your Spine Chiropractic, Bio-hydraulics are understood to be an important part of Structural Correction. Think of a Chiropractor who thinks in terms of bones AND water pressure in the body, and how they relate to each other. That's what we do, and our results speaks for themselves!
